ABSTRACT: School Management faces several challenges to ensure excellent work with the school. In the educational process, several variables compromise the educational process and represent challenges to the performance of the Manager. In this sense, the research has as its General Objective to investigate the challenges and possibilities for School Management in the 21st century. The methodological procedures are structured in a field research, quantitative and qualitative, descriptive and exploratory, based on the reality of all public schools in the municipality of Primavera – PE. The survey had the questionnaire as an instrument of data collection. As a result, the research shows that the challenges listed by the Managers are related to Democratic and Participative Management; weaknesses in literacy processes; alignment of school management to management by results. According to the Managers, the monitoring of these variables is essential to ensure the development of schools. The possibilities of overcoming these challenges, on the other hand, are linked to the use of diverse instruments of pedagogical work, search for the literacy of 100% of the students, respect for school culture, encouragement to democratized and participative management; promoting moments of family participation in the school and continuous monitoring of the results and situations emerging in the school routine. We conclude that, through the results found, the research was able to prove its hypotheses that affirm that the challenges found are related to the current school reality, focused on results, weaknesses in the literacy processes, obstacles to the concretization of democratic and participative management; while the possibilities are related to the influence of these managers in the school culture, promoting moments of reflection on
the part of teachers and other education professionals in relation to their role within the school, articulation with the family, monitoring of results and involvement with the school context and achieve their goals, considering the approach in schools, essential moments for understanding the School Management processes experienced in these spaces.
