Abstract: The covid-19 pandemic brought numerous challenges for everyone as, with the implementation of social isolation, all non-essential services were paralyzed, including schools, which had to adapt to this new reality. Private schools, which had resources, were able to adapt in a timely manner, initiating school activities shortly after the stoppage. The same did not occur with public schools. In state public schools, because they have a large number of students and employees, and a delay in the support of the education departments, teaching was gradually initiating and with many difficulties. In view of these obstacles faced by school management during the pandemic period, the present study intended to investigate the reality of the managers of two Reference High Schools in the State of Pernambuco, to understand their pain in order to make clear the support they need. So that they can continue to offer quality education that meets both face-to-face and remote realities. The research was carried out in two parts. The first part was a bibliographic survey in order to explain the experiences of school management before and during the pandemic, so that we understand the changes that occurred and the actions that were taken to carry them out. The other step was the application of an electronic questionnaire, via Google Forms, to two managers of EREMs in Pernambuco, in order to investigate their challenges and actions to maintain the continuity of teaching in their schools. Thus, the present study was able to show that the main difficulties of school management are the handling of technologies and digital media, the demands to maintain the index according to the established goals, the contact with students, in order to guarantee the teaching and try to avoid school dropout, seeking alternatives that fit the student’s reality, in addition to managing teachers, who are also overloaded and have many difficulties with handling the platforms. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the support of the secretariats and regional managements is essential since, although the school management has managed to continue teaching, it does not mean that it does not need support. If education continued to be offered during the pandemic, it was because of the efforts of these professionals who now, more than ever, deserve the nec  y attention and subsidy, so that they continue to promote quality education, ws everyone’s right.
