JOB TITLE: EVALUATING THE QUALITY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BREJO DA MADRE DE DEUS/PE AS PERCEIVED BY TEACHERS AND SCHOOL COORDINATORS

Autor: Helena Ferreira de Melo, Maria

Date of document: February, 08-2022

Abstract: Brazilian education and consequently municipal education have undergone transformations in recent years that have provided a better assessment of basic education through the application of assessment provided by the Basic Education Development Index, however, these transformations have not been sufficient to provide municipal education of quality. This work aims to evaluate the quality of basic education and teacher training in the ninth year of basic education in the municipality of Brejo da Madre de Deus, state of Pernambuco, Brazil, through the application of questionnaires to teachers and school coordinators. Using convenience sampling, five schools in the municipality distributed in different locations were selected and five teachers per school participated in the research, as well as the respective school coordinators. The present study was characterized as qualitative, exploratory and explanatory, as it sought to obtain subjective and objective data that would qualify representations about teaching work and limiting factors in the quality of municipal education. The data obtained were processed into averages using the Microsoft Excel program. The subjective questions were examined descriptively, through textual analysis, highlighting the main points raised. This study reveals that teachers and school coordinators attribute a good concept to municipal basic education, however, according to them, infrastructure, lack of family interaction in the school environment and the impossibility of professional qualification are the main factors that limit the development of municipal education. The coordinators also cite the lack of pedagogical training of teachers and the need to improve the training of future teachers, ensuring that they are truly qualified to practice teaching. However, the lack of incentives from the municipal public authorities for professional qualification is notable, dedicating themselves only to carrying out training, and nothing is encouraged so that teachers can attend postgraduate studies, despite all coordinators considering the continuous improvement of teachers to be important.
