Abstract: This study presents a research developed with the objective of understanding the perceptions of basic education teachers, about the teaching practices of the Portuguese language and literature, in the teaching-learning process of everyday school life. From this perspective, the study resulted from a qualitative methodological approach, through the approach of Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA), with data collection from teachers in the city of Porto Calvo, in the State of Alagoas, during the year 2019. The focus of investigation was based on the study of the design of teaching projects and pedagogical practices in the school context of 30 Portuguese Language and Literature teachers, who teach in basic education at different levels of education in the city of Porto Calvo, coming from the municipal and state spheres . Furthermore, the objective was to understand the influence of theories that lead to effective and efficient teaching on the pedagogical practice of educators. To generate data, the participating teachers responded to a questionnaire with essay and objective questions, organized into three sections. From the analysis of the questionnaire data, the categories of meaning units (US) emerged: “Reading and writing as social representation”, “Pedagogical practices through the teachinglearning process as an agent of social transformation” and “Teaching and learning through textual genres”. Thus, it was concluded that the participating teachers understand the importance of pedagogical practices in the teaching-learning process, making use, above all, of social practices of language use.
