Abstract: This work results from a research developed on the postgraduate program in Master’s degree in educational sciences, developed at Escola Municipal Paulino Batista de Araújo, which is located in the municipality of Timbaúba dos Batistas – RN, Brazil. This work analyses the pedagogical practices developed in Education for Young People and Adults (EJA) and their contribution to the process of citizenship development of students. It is aimed to achieving this goal through a field study focused on analyzing the pedagogical practices in Education for Young People and Adults and their contribution to the formation of citizenship. It also considers the strategies used by educators to provide EJA students the means to claim the right to build their citizenship, identifying the main difficulties faced by educators in developing a methodology focused on this modality. This is a qualitative study, based on a field study, in which data were obtained through interviews, observations and a survey with open questions. Education for Young People and Adults is regulated by the article thirty-seven in Lei de Diretrizes e Bases Nacional 9.394/96, which indicates education for those who have not been able to complete their studies at the proper age, giving them the opportunity to complete their studies and build their autonomy. Education for Young People and Adults has a strong relationship with respect for differences and recognition of diversity. The focus on pedagogical practices developed by educators in classrooms is relevant for researches, considering the interfaces experienced by those in the educational and social context.
