Abstract:This dissertation brings an approach about autism and the school, where the challenges and the need for inclusion in regular education were addressed. The city of Brejo da Madre de Deus / PE was taken as the region addressed. The objective of this Master’s Dissertation is to understand the relevance of the school in the process of social inclusion of autistic students, in the search for efficient educational development. We sought to conceptualize Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) according to the teachings of the selected theorists to compose the theoretical framework, in order to understand the nuances of this disorder and the impacts both on the lives of students and teaching professionals. The way in which the multifunctional intervention process should take place in schools was mentioned, as well as the profile of autistic students and the needs and challenges faced by them in the school environment. The relationship between teachers and autistic students, as well as the necessary resources for an efficient teaching / learning process are addressed with the purpose of understanding how specific resources are fundamental in the development of these students. A practical study was carried out with teachers working at the Municipal Education Network in the city of Brejo da Madre de Deus / PE, where the professionals expressed their opinions regarding the proposed questions. The results identified the need for effective actions as a way to promote a more efficient study routine for autistic students and teachers, who are not always prepared to deal with the teaching / learning process of these students autistic
