Autor: Cristiane Gomes da Silva, Élida

Date of document: September, 25-2023

Abstract: Adolescence stands out for being a very complex stage of life, it is the phase where young people are going through the transition between childhood and adolescence. This is exactly where learning must be constant and intense, as this transition allows young people the possibility of being willing to try new experiences and adopt other behaviors. It is clear that in recent years, due to lack of information, the number of young people infected by an STI has statistically increased alarmingly. The theme of science in action: students’ perception of the risks of sexually transmitted infections in the final years of elementary school classes at a school in the city of Gravatá-PE stands out for its relevance to the social context, as it seeks to evaluate the problems related to such infections. The objective of this research was to evaluate the knowledge of students at Escola José Batista de Melo related to sexually transmitted infections in the city of Gravatá-PE. The type of study was descriptive and with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The research subjects were 120 students, 60 from the 8th year and 60 from the 9th year of elementary school II. This research involved 8 (eight) teachers, 01 (one) manager, 01 (one) pedagogical coordinator, thus totaling 130 research subjects. As a data collection instrument, questionnaires were applied with objective and subjective questions that deal with the topic discussed. Given the percentages presented and duly measured, it can be seen that there was good use of the proposed work. The results showed that greater intervention by the school with students is necessary and that teachers must participate even more in ongoing training, given that in the data presented, a certain limitation of actions that can be applied to students was noticed. The results also showed that the presence of the family at school is necessary. May the school be even more engaged in actions, projects and methodologies that can be effectively satisfactory for students. That the teachings on STIs are not only applied according to the curriculum, but throughout the school year. Given the results obtained, the need to expand such knowledge, including for families and students, is clear, as it is understood that more and more students need help and families and schools could be available to help young people. Still in accordance with the above, it is worth highlighting that, once the problems related to STIs are immersed in this universe, they can be minimized when using actions, projects and methodologies that have the intention of promoting sexual education and orientation in young people. Thus, the student now has a range of possibilities to have a better understanding of what is intended to be taught. Therefore, the student will be predisposed to learning, thus becoming a learner with a great possibility of learning significantly and being a transmitter of knowledge in their social context.
