Abstract:

This study shows that teachers are daily and constantly exposed to ergonomic risks in the classrooms where their classes are taught, and this risks can influence in their physical and mental health, as well as in the quality of their lives and classes ministered. Therefore, Life Quality at Work (LQW) is an increasingly studied and researched topic due to its important and direct relevance with individual’s integral health maintenance and provides better performance and consequently greater productivity and motivation from employees. Many institutions are trying to improve their physical structures to minimize the presence of ergonomic risks and their impacts and reflexes on health, life quality and productive results. The organizational improvement of work processes using the 5S methodology also helps optimizing time and tasks during the workday, as well as in everyone’s personal life, bringing positive results to everyone’s health, according to the views of the authors that contributed to this research. Considering that environmental comfort and its variables can influence in health, life quality and execution of teachers’ tasks, this study had as its general objective to investigate the impacts on teachers’ health and quality of life from ergonomic comfort in classrooms. For methodology, an exploratory-descriptive study was used, with field research, with qualitative and quantitative approach, based in the ergonomic factors of noise, light and temperature, that when not in compliance with what is determined by Regulatory Standards can cause discomfort and loss in teachers’ life quality in short, medium and long terms. For this, were used: literature review, application of a questionnaire created by the researcher, photographic records and graphics for statistical analysis of the participants’ responses. The sample was composed of 10 (ten) teachers, regardless of age range, males and females, that teach their classes in conventional classrooms. From the results found it was evident the lack of knowledge of the teachers about the addressed theme, being necessary more information about ergonomic risks in classrooms and about how these risks can impact in health and life quality and in the appearance of correlated signs and symptoms, as well as in quality of the classes taught. That said, it was possible to conclude that from a more organized work, there is a tendency in diminish stress level, increasing motivation and satisfaction, improving interpersonal relationship and bringing more agility to the productive processes. And this is not different in the school work environment, where teachers need to be healthy to teach their classes with quality, as well as perform all their functions with excellence.
